Chlorophyll data service in the Malta Shelf Area

A new STREAM service provides daily analysis of mass concentration of chlorophyll-a (CHL) anomalies, including spatial index maps for high chlorophyll occurrence and intensity in the Malta shelf area. User specific requests for data access and visualisation are planned for delivery on the STREAM mobile app.

Climate Change beyond Doubt!

The STREAM Marine Heat Wave service is providing a monitor on sea surface temperature (SST) around the Maltese Islands. Since its start in November 2023, the service has provided daily synopsis of SST which has remained well above the climatological mean all throughout Autumn and Winter.

Anomalous year for SST around the Maltese Islands

Summer is well over, but the sea temperature remains high. July 2023 witnessed unprecedented sea temperatures, recording the highest SST since 1982, reaching a domain-averaged peak of 29.7 degrees Celsius. SST data for November 2023, indicates a sustained higher sea temperature compared to previous years. The SST measurements for November show temperatures more than 2 degrees higher than the average SST from 1982 to 2022
